| Description: | Position Description: This position supports the Water Demand Management Services and ICI (Industrial, Commercial and Institutional) sectors within the company. In a fast-paced engineering environment with strict deadlines, the Irrigation Design Engineer prepares working layouts and finished drawings of components, assemblies, or systems from specifications, prior layouts, or verbal instructions sufficient for detailing commercial and residential irrigation systems. A willingness to learn the United States Green Building Councils (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating systems and apply them into the design drawings, specifically the utilization of harvested rain or condensation water for use in the irrigation system. Efficiency in Auto-Cad 2000-2008, Eagle Point Land CAD, Adobe Photo Shop CS, Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook is required. The candidate will perform their duties at the Water Management Inc. office @ The Enviro-Center located at 7761 Waterloo Rd. Jessup, MD 20794. The Enviro-Center is a green office building that exhibits sustainability as its core principal. www.enviro-center.com The Irrigation Design Engineer teams with engineers and auditors of the other sectors and reports directly to VP Irrigation. Essential Functions: 1. Prepare Pre-design sketches & Ideas and Submit to Client 2. Prepare Complete Sleeving Drawings 3. Coordinate Utility and Mechanical Requirements 4. Investigate and Evaluate Water Supply Flow Rates and Pressure 5. Research Local Plumbing Codes for Each Project Type 6. Estimate Construction Cost of Proposed Systems 7. Schedule or attend Pre- Construction Meetings with Owner and/or Contractors. 8. Provide staking or layout of final approved design. 9. Communicates with internal and external customers about projects. 10. Studies specifications, sketches, notes, and other design data and measures prior layouts, using scales and dividers, to determine details and dimensions of components. 11. Lays out Auto-Cad major or minor components, assemblies, or systems. 12. Performs mathematical calculations to work out detailed additions to specifications. 13. Develops design of details not completely defined. 14. Projects sections and auxiliary views of components on layouts. 15. Coordinates and works in conjunction with other engineers designing, laying out, or detailing same or related products. 16. Attend cross functional team meetings and provide preparation where required. 17. Maintain and update time allocation logs, project schedules, correspondence and all “organizing” activities. 18. Ability to work on multiple projects at a time. 19. Schedule and attend on-going training and certification classes. Qualifications: • A Bachelors Degree in Horticulture or equivalent. • A Certified Irrigation Designer (CID) designation from the Irrigation Association is preferred but not required. • Excellent technical skills in the field of irrigation and landscaping. • Woody plant and perennial knowledge is important as well as a good understanding of turf and plant care. • Must have excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills. • Construction Project management skills. • Good written and oral communication skills. • Ability to understand WMI contracts. | |
